Increasing STEM Teacher Diversity

Dr. King contributes to diversifying the STEM teacher workforce through a combination of scholarship, practice, and advocacy. Her work emphasizes abolitionist teaching, culturally sustaining pedagogies, and community engagement to address systemic inequities in science education. Dr. King leads initiatives that mentor underrepresented science teachers and amplify their roles as advocates for equity and inclusivity. She collaborates on research-practice partnerships to redesign teacher preparation programs, infusing them with approaches that center the experiences of Black and Brown students. Through her publications and presentations, Dr. King highlights the importance of developing diverse and socially responsive STEM educators who can inspire and support underrepresented students in pursuing STEM pathways.
